Pukehina’s Midway Park to get a skills track for riders of all levels
The new track will sit beside a pump track that locals have already finished building.
Manawa Trust, formerly TECT Community Trust, has given $74,118 towards a new riding skills track at Midway Park in Pukehina.
Stage one of the project is finished. It is a 185-metre asphalt pump track designed for riders of all ages and abilities, and bikes, scooters and skateboards can use it.
Esther Kirk, a Committee Member of the Pukehina Residents and Ratepayers Association (PRRA), says the space is always busy after school, on weekends and during holidays.
Stage two will add an adjoining skills track. It is a progression track with features and roll-ins where users can safely develop and refine their skills.
The track will cater for balance bikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades. Trailpro designed it to complement the pump track.
Before plans are finalised, the association will spend the coming weeks talking with local children, families and regular users. Additional seating and native planting will also be added.
The volunteer-run PRRA leads the project, supported by Western Bay of Plenty District Council. The pump track was funded with $125,000 allocated from a repurposed targeted rate, after residents were consulted in 2025.
Construction of stage two is scheduled to start in October and be completed by December 2026.
