Netsafe and ignite offer free wellbeing sessions after online harm
Adults who report serious online harm to Netsafe may be offered up to three funded sessions with trained professionals, at no cost.
Netsafe has teamed up with ignite on a pilot that connects people affected by serious online harm with specialist wellbeing support.
Adults aged 18 and over who report sextortion, image-based abuse or online stalking to Netsafe may be offered a referral to ignite. Through the pilot, participants can have up to three funded wellbeing sessions at no cost to them. Places are limited.
“Online harm is real harm, and its impact can continue long after the incident itself,” said Netsafe.
Netsafe says getting help with the immediate harm is important, but the emotional and psychological effects can also be significant. The sessions are with trained professionals who understand the impacts of online harm.
The pilot is called the Digital Harm Support Pathway. Netsafe says it will help the organisation explore whether linking its online harm support with specialist wellbeing services can improve outcomes for people affected.
Anyone experiencing online harm, or worried about someone else, can contact Netsafe. Its helpline is free and confidential, and is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm.
People can call 0508 638 723 or text Netsafe to 4282. They can also email [email protected] or report online harm at report.netsafe.org.nz.
